Essential Nutrients for Your Kids

Children are constantly growing. Nutrition helps them maintain a healthy weight, recover quickly from illnesses, build up strong bones and muscles, and maintain energy levels.

Nutritional deficiencies can lead to a range of health issues, such as obesity, asthma, high cholesterol, and heart disease, as well as learning disabilities and low self-esteem.

It is very significant to ensure that your child gets the nutrients they need to grow healthy and strong. Here are some nutrients your child should get.

Omega-3s

It is known that omega-3 fatty acids play an important role in developing fetal brain function, maintaining heart health, and enhancing immunity. Since the body cannot produce them on its own, essential fatty acids must be obtained from food. There are three main types of omega-3 acids: alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).

DHA is an unsaturated omega-3 found in high proportions in the brain and eye compared to other organs. In the brain, DHA is involved in neuronal signalling, while in the eye it is involved in the quality of vision. Many studies and research indicate that fatty acids may improve a child’s brain function, particularly memory and learning ability. DHA can be found naturally in fatty fish, including salmon, mackerel, and tuna.

Calcium

Calcium is a nutrient that your body needs for many basic functions. Among other things, calcium is necessary for the circulation of blood, the movement of muscles, and the release of hormones. Especially, the importance of calcium in tooth and bone health cannot be overstated. Bone density and strength are enhanced by it.

Our children's development is no different. Calcium is an essential mineral for the growth and development of children and adolescents as it maintains strong bones and teeth while also assisting in muscle contractions.

Vitamin D

For your body to absorb calcium, you need vitamin D. In other words, if you're lacking in vitamin D, a calcium-rich diet won't benefit you fully. Among them, vitamin D3 is one of the most essential nutrients to help the body absorb and regulate calcium. This is needed for strong bone and teeth development, and also supports a healthy immune system.

Vitamin D can be obtained from foods such as salmon, egg yolks, and mushrooms. Like calcium, some food products have vitamin D added to them. For example, milk often has added vitamin D.

Vitamin A, C & E

These vitamins can help your child maintain a healthy immune system, reduce cold and flu symptoms, and improve general health and well-being.

Vitamin A provides antioxidants that help protect your child's body from developing chronic diseases. It also promotes sharp eyesight, strong vision, and cell production and improves the immune system.

Meanwhile, vitamin C is known for its role in immune function and helps reduce cold and flu symptoms. As an antioxidant, vitamin C reduces free radicals formed in the body and helps prevent them from damaging your child’s healthy body cells.

Vitamin E is required for normal immune system function and helps the body fight germs. It is a potent antioxidant that limits the production of free radicals.
